cake

I am not as talented as some of you are in the kitchen. Actually, I am quite a klutz in most things I do creatively but I am attempting to make Olivia's 1st birthday cake. YIKES! What am I thinking? Well, my dear sister in-law, Cami, makes beautiful cakes (she made my wedding cake) and I imposed on her for advice and prayed that her talent would come to me through some magical power. Well, I am not even as close as she is to excellence but I made a trial first time cake. And her advice has been helpful. Liv's birthday isn't for one more month but knowing how much time I need to prepare I figure one month gives me time to practice.

Here is a sneak preview of what her birthday cake with sort of look like. Yes there is fondant and yes this is my first time using it and it shows. However, I am proud of my accomplishment and hopefully by April I will wow you all with my cake making skills.

It looks a lot bigger in the pictures than it is. It is 6" by about 4" totally not a cube but a rectangle. :)

My first thought was "WOW!" Amy, well done! My mom-in-law makes amazing cakes and I always want to learn how. I'm just not sure I have the patience necessary to decorate an entire cake. I'm very proud of you. I'll call you when Libby turns 2 so you can make her cake. She really likes Care Bears so get those ideas ready. Oh, by the way, we love you and miss you!
