It is true, I broke my precious little baby girl. I laid her down on our bed and turned to set my bag down and it happened. She must have sat up or tried to stand on the bed. There really wasn't time for much and as I turned back around my Liv fell head first off our bed onto the hardwood floor. She did have her binkie in her mouth and I picked her up immediately to find copious amounts of blood coming out of her mouth.
I rushed her to the bathroom and grabbed a washcloth, soaked it with cold water and attempted to stop the bleeding. After a couple seconds I removed the washcloth to notice that my daughters two top front teeth were not there. Then after another look I found her two teeth, smashed further up into her gum.
NOOOO, this can't be happening. We are out of town, it is 8pm at night and I don't know what to do. I am so grateful for my husband who calls my parents to seek their advice. They happen to have a good friend who is a dentist/orthodontist. My dad calls Bruce Pitt and he says bring my daughter over to his house. We are about 15-20 mins away and rush right down. I am holding my angel in my arms as she is crying and repeatedly saying, "it hurts, Mommy." Yes, my heart is breaking. I am holding her head in my hands since she is complaining that her whole head hurts. I am praying the whole drive that my baby will be okay and to dull the hurt that she is suffering from.
We arrive at my parent's house, my Dad runs out and jumps in the car and navigates to Dr. Pitt's home. We are greeted with the kind faces of Dr. Pitt and his wife. He looks at my beloved child and gives us good news. (well according to him it was good news) Her teeth were intact and impacted up into her gums. OUCH!! What type of excruciating pain my brave little girl was in. Then Dr. Pitt said that if her teeth had broken it would have been more serious. Yay for the little blessings. Then he proceeded to tell us our options and the results we should pray for.
We then headed to my parent's house to give Olivia a blessing. The minute I saw my Mom with tears in her eyes and Trav with tears in his eyes, I lost it completely. I don't know anything worse than watching someone so young, innocent in pain and not understand why they are in so much pain. I wish I could take the pain away from her.
Well, to make a long story a bit shorter. . .this all happened on Monday night. We were in Utah for a business meeting and had to extend our trip to ensure Liv will be okay. Today we went to the dentist's office and good news. Liv's teeth are up in her gums but didn't touch her permanent teeth (probably because she is still so young). The prognosis is good and we will hopefully see, in the next few months, her teeth will start to come back down. So for a while we will have a partial toothless grin.
She is still the most beautiful person I have ever met.
My family has been so blessed this week. My brother, Eric, who is serving a mission in Brazil was in the hospital and had surgery to remove his appendix. On the same day my sister in-law who is about 20 weeks pregnant had a seizure. Then my daughter falls. We are so blessed that all are okay. My brother is recovering nicely and feeling better. My sister in-law and the baby are doing well, a little sore but doing well. And my daughter still smiles and laughs despite being in pain.
Counting my blessings. . .Liv fell with her binkie in her mouth which pushed her teeth up into her gums instead of breaking the teeth.
There are friends who are willing to share their dental expertize and calm my heart.
My husband is a worthy priesthood holder who can give a blessing when needed.
There are many more blessings I have been able to witness this week and I am grateful for all of them.

What a heart-wrenching story! I almost cried myself as I read it! I'm glad that everything worked out for Olivia! I feel for her! I fell when I was little and ended up having to have my teeth pulled eventually and was toothless for several years! What a tough little girl you have!
Missed seeing you at the family party! I'll have to catch you some other time! We just keep missing each other. Here's hoping you have a calm next few months!
Oh my goodness! This post made me CRY! It is always so sad whwen babies get hurt! i am sooo sorry! But I am also so glad that things look ok and that things are ok with all the other terrible things that have been going on in your family!!! We will keep you in our prayers!
How scary for you guys! I'm glad that she is going to be alright. Hang in there!
Poor Livy! I can't imagine how bad that would hurt. I'm glad she'll be ok.
Oh Amy! I am so so sorry. What a scary moment. We have all had them - trust me! I was totally tearing up reading this because I know that feeling.
I am so glad she is ok and everything is going to be alright. You are such a good mom, Olivia is so lucky to have you!
Oh, wow, Amy! What an adventure. I am so glad Olivia is okay and that despite the situation, you got the better end of the deal. Hope she heals quickly and those teeth move back into place without any problems. So scary.
I can SO feel for you! When Ethan was about the same age, James was watching him and the other boys in the bath. I was in the other room. Suddenly I heard SCREAMING like you wouldn't believe! James said that Ethan had been standing up chattering about something, when his feet went out from under him and he fell straight teeth-down onto the side of our bathtub. One of his front teeth was broken - it looked like a fork! We took him to Lander the next day (we lived in Moab at the time) and James' dad pulled his tooth out because he was afraid that if he left it and repaired it, it would damage the permanent tooth underneath it. So Ethan went for the next several years without a front tooth, until his permanent tooth finally came in. That was so sad! It has been quite the story for him to tell, though, even though he doesn't really remember it. I have since wondered if he might have been fine if they had just repaired the tooth instead of pulling it. Oh well, nothing we can do about it now!
